For renters in Australia

Can't get rooftop solar because you rent? Here's what's actually legal right now.

Germany and the UK let renters plug solar straight into a wall socket. Australia isn't there yet — but there's a fully legal way to run panels on your balcony today, no landlord approval, no electrician.

What plug-in solar looks like in Germany and the UK.

Germany calls it a Balkonkraftwerk — over a million households now run one. The UK only just caught up: as of August 2026, self-installed plug-in kits are fully legal there too. Neither is legal in Australia yet (see above) — but this is the direction things are heading.

Common questions

No. A portable panel and power station aren't fixed to the building and don't touch your home's wiring, so it sits outside typical lease restrictions on modifications.

It offsets what you'd otherwise draw from the grid for whatever's plugged into the battery — modest for Tier 1, more noticeable at Tier 3. It won't power your whole home.

Your panel and battery keep working exactly as they do now. If you want to upgrade to a certified grid-connected setup later, we'll let the waitlist know first.
